In 1898 a barn was erected in the Southeastern US. It was made of the indiginous lumber, Loblolly Pine, the same lumber used by Leo on the very first guitars he made. Many consider those the finest sounding of the lot.

What makes such aged lumber superior? Prior to use, lumber is dried to the correct level so that it can be used in guitars. This only addresses water moisture which is reduced to about 10%. The Resins however, what we called “sap” as youngsters, takes many more years to fully crystallize. Until it does, it remains at a gelatinous substance locked within the cells of the lumber. I am among those that feel those resins inhibit the resonances of the body. Most lumbers used in the construction of Solid Body guitars, takes about 50 years for this crystallization to occur. It is this phenomenon that is often touted as the reason the older guitars sound so wonderful.

Last year the barn was dismantled, and I had the opportunity to get some of the lumber to incorporate into my guitars, these are the last of that lot.

While I had more to offer, most were purchased by guitarists before I had the opportunity to get them posted. But I still have a few from time to time.

So, a T-style, to vintage specs, with 100+ year old lumber. Before you say, Nahhh, you may want to check to see what having one made by your “favorite” custom shop would set you back. This is about a third of that cost.

The neck is fully leveled, crowned and polished, it's ready to roll.
